Create a Tree-Map Bar Chart
Do you know SWD challenge? It is a community initiative by Tableau and a great place to practice visualizations. You can do the exercises, and challenges in any tool you like, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, etc. You can find the link here.
In the SWD community, there was a challenge by Alex Valez, ‘Face your fear: Xenographphobia’ where the participants had to use unusual graphs in their work. Some of the examples are as follows:-
Maptrix and Horizon Chart can be created in Tableau. Tableau Visionary Marc Reid has a tutorial on it. I will show you how to create a Bar- Treemap or Treemap-Bar chart in Tableau.
Load the Sample Superstore Data.
Open a new worksheet. Set view as ‘Entire View’.
Drag Region onto Rows and Color. Change the Mark Type to Square.
Drag Sales into Size shelf and label. Drag State into Label. You should see the following.
